Kimbo Mania
Why is Kimbo Slice so popular right now? The simple truth is people like to see knockouts. The percentage’s that a Kimbo Slice fight will end in a knockout are probably %90 or better. The man is a viscous brawler who looks to KO his opponent with almost every punch. Not to mention he had a pre existing fans base from his internet fights, he’s undefeated, and charismatic.
With all that said, I do think its time he faced more capable opponents. James Thompson is a step in the right direction. If Kimbo can manage to get a win in this fight he will finally, to me, make a solid statement.
I think Tito Ortiz thinks he can take Kimbo. UFC 84 will be the last fight in the UFC for Tito Ortiz. Do you think it’s possible we will see Kimbo vs. Tito in the EliteXC? Kimbo would have a bit of a size advantage, but I think Tito should be able to bulk up a bit. I am a firm believer that the way to handle a power puncher is to ground him. It’s pretty tuff to throw a KO blow from your back.
Kimbo has been putting a lot of work in to get where he is. I relate his appeal to that of Mike Tyson’s early in his career. People want to see someone get beat down, and Kimbo just happens to hand a lot of those out. You can see Kimbo vs. Thompson for free on CBS May 31st.

UFC 84 Previews

On May 25th UFC 84 returns to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Main Event features the UFC Lightweight Championship fight between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk. This fight has serious potential for a legendary battle. BJ Penn is confident he is at his best and Sherk is eager to reclaim his title since being stripped. Who do you think is going to win this one? If you haven’t already, you can vote on our poll for this fight here (The Prodigy vs. Muscle Shark).
The Main event isn’t the only potentially great fight on the card though. We will also get to see the “Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva in his second UFC confrontation against “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine. Wanderlei always comes for a fight, and Jardine is a banger too, so this one could be explosive. Jardine is best known for the whooping he handed Chuck Liddell. Silva is a former Pride Champion who, win or lose, will always leave everything he has in the cage. He will be very hungry after his loss to Liddell in his UFC debut. He wasn’t victorious, but he put on a hell of a fight.
Also on this card is Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida. Most people are familiar with Ortiz as he has been a common face in the UFC for sometime. A former Champ himself he always comes in great shape with a solid game plan. Machida has been on a roll though, with impressive wins over a lot of good fighters in the UFC. He is now 12 – 0. He recently dominated “The African Assassin” Sokoudjou Rameau, eventually finishing him with a choke. If he can do the same to Tito then he will definitely be among the top light heavyweights.
In my opinion this is the best looking UFC card since the December show. The Las Vegas fans will surely be treated to some awesome MMA action. The full fight card for UFC 84 can be seen below.

Uriah Faber vs Jens Pulver Poll

On June 1st Uriah Faber will defend his WEC championship against his most noted oppenent yet, Jens Pulver. Jens Pulver has been in the MMA game for a bit now and has fought all over the world. He recently lost in the rematch against BJ Penn at The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale. Faber is the poster boy of WEC. He is a young, explosive, and diverse fighter. Uriah has blasted through the current WEC competition so it will be interesting to see what Pulver can bring to the table against him.
I saw a Penn vs Pulver post fight interview where Jens said he might consider doing some ground training with BJ sometime. Does anyone know if he has? If so I am interested to see how much he has improved. Either way this match up should make for a good fight.n
